National Electrical Code (NEC)

NEC is the National Electric Code which is a voluntary standard published by National Fire Protection Association – a private organization. Many state and local government agencies have adopted it as their code to regulate electrical construction practices. NEC sets standards for wiring and electrical devices. The NEC requirements are widely followed by local jurisdictions.

 


National institute of standards & technology (Nist)

NIST is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Technology Administration. The NIST charter is to strengthen the U.S. economy and improve the quality of life by working with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards. NIST has played an integral role in the development of BACnet.

 


Native (native protocol)

Protocol used by device, panel or workstation for network communication without the use of a gateway or translation interface.

 


NEMA

National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Includes lamp, electrical device and larger fixture manufacturers. NEMA develops consensus ratings and designations for various products.

neuron id

The Neuron ID is a hardware address that will change if the hardware changes. Each LonWorks device has a unique 48 bit Neuron ID that was factory assigned into the Neuron chip when it was manufactured. The Neuron ID is broadcast through the network so that a logical address can be assigned.

 


Neon Lamp

Low pressure arc discharge lamps that operate at high voltage. Typically used for decoration and signage purposes.

 


Network, Dimming

A system of dimming controls that are wired and programmed to respond together, usually to link controls in several rooms.

 


NFRC

National Fenestration Rating Council, Inc. is a non-profit organization that administers the only uniform, independent rating and labeling system for the energy performance of windows, doors, skylights, and attachment products.
